COLLABORATING WITH COLLETTE INEZ

poet

1992

Rita Blitt sketched David Parsons as he taught a class in a grade school. Later, these drawings were in an exhibition accompanied by Haiku poems by poet Collette Inez.  Colette wrote a poem specifically for each drawing.

Heartlines, waves lean in
the parallel curves of the dancer
leaning into ritual.

Beneath an uprooted cloud,
black and shite notes to the dancer's music
Who plucks the harp of air?

Hills rise, night sky of our origins
the clear line of bone, and flesh
turning in the universe.

A lunar calm breaking away from this body
in passionate motion, the broken position
longs to be whole.

2005

Inez recited these poems in a performance that Blitt presented for the gala for the Center for Learning and Leadership (CLAL). Her poems were accompanied by a improvisational dance performed by Jason McDole with Dr. Michael Udow performing on percussion instruments.
