Ovals (1981-1985)

On her 50th birthday, Blitt placed both hands at the bottom of the page of a 30 x 22 inch sheet of paper. She moved her conté crayons to opposite sides of the sheet, allowing her hands to meet again at the top center, forming a simple slightly pointed oval to which she added color. "To my own amazement, I said, 'I'm finished. This is what I have been struggling for all these years. Why have I been dancing all over the page?'"

The first two works in the collection below were created before the genesis of the Oval series.
